Group Of Five Visa

Group of Five:

Group of Five (G5) is a Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program which allows any group of five Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents to come together and sponsor refugees. The group sponsoring is responsible for making sure that the needs of the people seeking refuge are met. The sponsoring group must be able to provide for the refugee financially and must help them resettle into Canada. The following are some of the responsibilities that are in the sponsorship undertaking form:

  • Meeting a refugee when they first arrive in their community.
  • Finding housing for them.
  • Stocking their home with essentials and basic furniture.
  • Providing food, clothing, and other necessities.
  • Covering local transportation costs.
  • Making them feel welcome in their new community.
  • Making sure they learn English or French.
  • Helping them find a job.

The time period required for support is usually a year but can be longer. It can also be ended early if a refugee is able to support themselves, but it must be restarted if that is no longer the case during the time period.
